Tender Mercies

Farewell California, Hello Louisiana

Where do I begin? I feel like I’ve blinked and the whole thing was over. It has been a roller coaster of ups and downs, I wish I wouldn’t have to get off, but I’ll just be jumping onto a different roller coaster. I am excited to begin this next step of life and see what the Lord has in store. I was just blessed with many wonderful people this week. We had a great night with the Creasons this week. We taught a lesson about receiving revelation. I was praying for them a while back and asked for help. The Spirit said “Internet” What in the world? What am I supposed to do with that? I kept thinking and I was led to a cool analogy the Lord helped me see, I now call it “Google Pray” so we shared that and some wonderful videos. Guess what? Brother Creason had a dream this week. It was a special experience for us all and I think literally the coolest thing ever! The Spirit of God is so good and can bring us answers in so many ways!! Brother Creason even gave me a hug (shhhh) haha.

We had our last Mission LeadershipCouncil & Zone Training this week. I am just going to miss these missionaries soooooo much! Grateful I don’t have to miss the gospel & that I can bring that with me! Also that social media and technology is a thing so our goodbyes won’t be for long.

We were able to have a special experience with President and Sister Taggart, they took all he departing missionaries to the temple ❤️ the Spirit was so strong as usual in the house of the Lord. I wish I could tell you all the details and help you to feel the same thing I did, but my words couldn’t do it justice. I did realize how much I have changed, how much more I desire to follow God.

We also had out departure dinner with the Taggarts. We spent three hours with them eating, laughing, and crying. We all shared out testimonies it was a special evening.

General Conference, a broadcast of the modern day prophets and apostles happens twice a year! It happened this weekend and It was fabulous!! President challenged us to take a question and as we listened to the conference he promised we would find an answer. I had a bunch of questions and by the end of the first session I turned to my companion and said I need more questions! Mine were all answered! It was amazing! I felt peace and a desire to improve. The doctrines of the gospel are MY favorite! Christ is MY favorite! I want to be more like my Savior and walk in His steps.

Said my goodbyes to Martha. I am going to miss her so much! She is just fabulous. She gave me the cutest little gift.

Also goodbyes to the Lambourne family. I literally love them and am always laughing with them and I love them!

And the Stephens ❤️ also love them.

And the Onoyas they bought me this little cake that said Goodluck Sister Hawkins and we invited her to be baptized and lots of Spirit and tears were shed and I am so excited for them!!

And Brother & Sister D. I cried in the car after that one. I’ve feel like part of the family. I’ve been at their house every week for three months! They are just amazing. I know He will get an answer to his prayers.

Moral of the story is I wish you could meet all these fabulous people and nothing brings you closer together than the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am so excited to come share all my stories with you all!! I want to see all of your beautiful faces ASAP so facetime me or whatever the kids do these days.

THIS IS THE WAY. HE IS THE WAY!

By the way – Kaitlin will be speaking in church on April 23rd. 9:00am at 310 Wellington Drive, Bossier City. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Amazing Week

Hello family! This week has been full of wonderful things, as usual. I
exchanged with Sister Smith, who is a bomb missionary. An AMAZING
teacher. I learned so much. We were tracting and felt we should keep
going, we did and met the sweetest old man, Jack. He is from England
and has the best accent. We were talking  and he told us a lot of
amazing stories that have brought him closer to God in his life. Not
sure why, but I felt like I should invite him to be baptized and did
and he said Yes! So Jack is working towards April 29th for baptism.
Can you believe That? I can’t! Our Father in Heaven continues to
surprise me with tender mercies each day. The Lord is so aware of His
children. It has been such a blessing to watch Him work in people’s
life, in mine as well. He is SO Good!
We got to help our Habitat for Humanity this week. It was really fun.
They are almost finished with the house and we washed down the super
dusty floors and ate at this heck sketchy Mexican Taco place. So
Yummy!!
We had another great lesson with Likely, the woman we teach at the
bus stop. The Spirit was SO strong. And there were way too many
coincidences that made it clear God had sent us there.
We also had zone conference this week and talked about study journals
and the new Easter Video! So pumped for Easter!! We’ve been trying to
get Brother Derrick to use his study journal, he at least brought it
this week. Progress!
Also had another fun exchange with the trio. I went to Yorba Linda
with Sweet Sister Sainan & Pennington. We had Phó!! I’m going to miss
that food so Much!! I already had to say some goodbyes this week😿 I’m
so excited to see all yall, but I am going to miss these people so
much! I wish I could take them with me. There are good people wherever
you Go! And the more you get to know them, the more good you see in
them. This gospel is so good and so true.

A Week of Beautiful Things

We had a great past few weeks! Sorry I haven’t had much time to email,
but know all is well! We were able to go to the Newport Beach Temple
twice this week! The first time we went for ourselves which was a real
treat, because they just changed the policy and we only get to go ever
6 months now. I’m glad I had the chance to go with my zone once more!
We also had a temple grounds Tour, which went fabulously because 4
investigators came! It was a beautiful! It’s usually hard to get even
one and the Lord blessed us with four! So Brother O. came, he is
the husband of a member and coolest guy I know! We also had a woman named Martha
come! She loved the peace she felt on the temple grounds and felt
everything made sense! We are seeing real progress form her. Then the
C. Family came! A couple we have been working with. It ”twas a
wonderful day!
We also were so blessed with a fantastic lesson with the O’s. I met
him a while back, he is a less active the ward kind of didn’t realize
was there and his wife is not a member. We started teaching her and a
couple from the ward came with us and helped and we taught the Plan of
Salvation. It was wonderful!!! The Spirit is just so awesome. I feel
the more I worry about lessons and pray and worry the better they go!
That’s exactly what happened. They pray together and it has strengthen
their relationship so much! He got tears in his eyes when he talked
about It! If you have a sign I can’t other pray with them! Miracles
happen.
I love y’all so Much! Sorry for another short email, but I will see
you in 3 weeks!

Mardi Gras, Cali Style

Updates!
The Creason’s came to church! I was so excited to see them there!  My wonderful Mother sent us some King Cakes and We brought them a piece of King Cake earlier in the week and at church he said “Sister Hawkins I have something for you!” He dropped
the baby from the king cake in my hand haha! It was the best!
My favorite Brother D came to church yesterday as well! We got him a
journal and wrote different scriptures & quotes he might like at the
bottom of the pages and gave it to him. I think he really liked it!
Now he can write all his thoughts and notes from church and stuff. It
makes a huge difference when I take notes vs. not taking notes in
meetings and such. Did you know taking notes is a a form of pondering?
I think that is just the coolest thing I’ve heard. Makes sense I just
never thought of it that way.
We brought King Cake around to some people in the ward and some people
we are teaching. One family I was super excited to surprise is the
Thompsons! They just moved here from Louisiana not too long ago. We go
over and they were so excited. She actually had been feeling homesick
and ordered all this Mardi Gras stuff and they were going to celebrate
that Sunday, so we took some fun pics😍 seriously the best thing ever!
We went over for beignets today for breakfast!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 best
pday ever!
So Sister Webb and Sister Moon did this thing where the gave their
departure day a name, like “Potato Day.” So anytime I refer to “April
Fools” I am referring to the day I leave the mission. So we had our
“April Fools Meeting” where president Taggart gave us all this
wonderful advice! There are about 8 or so other missionary going home
too. I feel more at peace about life in general so that’s always good
😊
We taught this lady who isn’t sure if she believes in God how to pray.
It was a really cool experience. Address Heavenly Father, express the
feelings of your heart, and end in the name of Jesus Christ! Just that
easy! And it is completely life changing! Could you imagine your life
without it? Truly, that would be so difficult. I would be no where
near where I am today without it. So challenge this week teach/inspire
someone pray. You can teach a child how to pray, reach out to friend
in person or on social media, pray for the opportunity help in
inspiring someone to look to God rather than man for their answers, or
you could share something about how prayer has blessed your life and
you never know it may inspire someone else to do the same! Tell me how
it goes 😊 #LightTheWorld
It was a wonderful week. God is so good. Sending all my love!!❤❤

Happy President’s Day

Happy Presidents’ Day y’all! 🇺🇸
Awesome things that happened:
-Bro D. Came to church! And is still coming along. Comfort is holding
him back. I understand it is a big life change.
-We lost our phone. Now you thinking why would this be an awesome
thing. Well we where at a dinner thing for the older folks at the
church. It was poring. We left and realized we didn’t have our phone.
We get back to the church and start looking. Those still around
cleaning up are helping. Sister Lamborne, as awesome as she is, says
let’s pray. We get in a little circle (note an investigator it there,
Martha, she is probs thinking this is the strangest thing) we pray,
one of the sisters says to go look in the car again. Sister Kieffer
runs ahead of me in the rain and I’m waddling behind her think through
where I left it and I see something shinny. Our phone is on the ground
the back was off and the battery on the ground. Just siting in the
rain in the middle of the parking spot. So the Lord led us to the
phone in less than 2 minutes. The craziest thing is the phone still
works!!!, the screen wasn’t working at first and rice healed it!
Martha thought it was just the coolest thing, and it was. The Lord is
so aware of our prayers!!!
-We met this awesome family a friend from the MTC told me about.❤ they
were so sweet and have invited us back.
-We were looking for a member of our church and found out he had moved
like 3 years ago, but we met John. And y’all John needs the gospel.
His life is a wreck. We kept testifying of Christ and all the
wonderful things in the gospel that will help him. He softened up a
lot towards the end. Hoping great things are in store for him.
-Met Summer. She just had a baby and didn’t know she was pregnant!
Crazy right?! But she is just so happy to have her first little one❤
summer is literally the nicest human ever and we get to go read the
scriptures with her every week! She wants to come closer to God!
I know the Lord’s hand is in everything we do. As we just do what we
are supposed to great blessings will come! Look at how the Lord has
blessed your life today! I promise He is somewhere! Even on the worst
of days.
I love y’all so much! Xoxo

Hola! (The Spanish is for Dad)

image1

Just for everyone’s information THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD has a
birthday this week on the 9th so shout out to him! 🎂🎁🎀🎈🎊
We had a really good week. It zoomed by so quickly!
We had MLC and Zone Training this week with is always super
awesome!!!! It just gets you so pumped to get out there and share the
Gospel!  We had Zone Conference this week so all good things! We
talked a lot about the World Wide Missionary Broadcast which was
amazing!!! Our zone is soooooo AWESOME and has the coolest insights!
One night after dinner we asked a family to pick the streets/ houses
to tract for the next thirty minutes! Success! They were super
inspired and we found a family that said we could come back and share
more🙌🏽
So one night it was 8:45 and we go in at 9:00 I’ve really been trying
to make the most of my time thanks to the loving advice of my mother
haha so we were driving and thinking about where we could go. I saw a
woman at the bus stop we pulled over and went to talk to her! It was
so AWESOME! She accepted a Book of Mormon and we have a return
appointment at the same bus stop 😹 you never know where you will find
people to teach! Nor how strange you may look in the process, but it
is always so worth it! Just talking to everyone!
We got to help with a move which was super tiring and fun! I am so out
of shape Mrs. Kaye be ready to help me!
We met up Saturday to finish the exchanges we ended early last week
when I got sick and it was AMAZING!!! We saw so many tender mercies
and I didn’t throw up 😂. They’ve been trying to see a man named
“Angel,” but he keeps cancelling appointments. We go by he lets us in
we teach the Plan of Salvation and he is so on board, really ready to
change his life. He truly wants him and his family to come closer to
God. And he accepted baptism! He is on date for March! Yay! It is so
cool to watch the Lord work might miracles in the lives of others. He
sometimes gives us those difficult trials to help us more fully rely
on Him and see that He has a much better and wonderful plan for all of
us! Our Savior lives! Much love to all of you!!

This Week…

We have a new missionary schedule! We have extra time to get ready in
the morning and to prepare for bed (more sleep) and we spend less time
studying and plan in the morning instead of at night! We love it
sooooo much! The World wide broadcast was wonderful! Our leaders are
so inspired. The day before we had an exchange, but had to leave that early
bc I started throwing up, gross. Haha but I was feeling better the
next day and managed to eat a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger and hold it down.
Whoo! I love Wendy’s! Oh something else with the change is less
studied in days so we actually have enough time to get everything
done! The new schedule is supposed to give us more agency and
hopefully help us in the transistor from mission to home.
We are still working with the regular people and making baby sets in
progress. This week most of our appointments cancelled so we spent
most of our time finding new investigators. People are just so
interesting aren’t they. If you have never gone door to door to share
something or sell something, I encourage you to do it at least once,
and you will know what I mean that people are just interesting haha. I
don’t have a ton to write about, but I do have a testimony of Jesus
Christ. I know He lives and loves us. He is completely aware of what
we are struggling with. He knows more about us than anyone and He
still loves us! Is that just not amazing. The Atonement of Christ
literally makes lasting joy possible. I’m focusing my studies on the
Atonement of Christ at the moment and He is just so so good. And our
Father in Heaven has a plan for us! We are sooooo blessed to have a
Savior and to get worship a God who is loving. Hope y’all have a great
week! Xoxo

Squirrel Filled Week

Happy happy week! We are almost not in a drought anymore! We have had buckets of rain this week. Well buckets for California, imagine like half the intensity of a summer Louisiana storm and you got it!  Wow this week has just been absolutely wonderful. Someone must be praying for us because we don’t deserve all the blessings we’ve been given! One of my favorites being about a man named Israel. Sister Webb and I met him maybe a month back on the street. We had an AMAZING conversation with him. He is truly seeking to know God and His plan for him. He just got a new # and couldn’t remember his, so he gave us an iMessage #. Well it wasn’t working and we haven’t been able to get back in contact. It was really sad. I thought I would never see him again. Well not true bc God is good and full of miracles. We get a call from the Elders across the zone and they asked if we knew an Israel. He had shown up to church with his daughter! And now the Elders are teaching him! #Miracle1

Exchanges with Sister Wynn were so much fun! There were some people outside arguing/crying. I was concerned so I asked if there was anything we could do. The man said “you mean with the funeral?” I was like sure with anything. And he was like “can you please take these flowers” sure we can. He gives us this giant pot of funeral flowers. So we took them. And then walked away. That has never happened to me. It was so random. Haha but hey we helped and now have buku flowers!

Squirrels were so friendly to us this week!!

We walk a bunch this week! We are running out of miles. Only a few more days and we will be freee!!! Be so grateful you normal people don’t have a limit on miles you can drive. Had another fun exchange with Sister Clipp who is as green as can be! Peer thing we had to walk a lot I think I wore her out hAhah but we’ve met a lot of really cool people bc of all our walking. I just love my mission. Anyone even thinking about one, it is the BEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!! I just feel so blessed to watch the Lord work through people’s lives in such a life changing way. The Gospel is true. Doesn’t mean it easy. But Christ never said it was easy. So it’s probably not meant to be. Here is your quote of the week.

“To be an example of faith means that we trust in the Lord and in His word. It means that we possess and that we nourish the beliefs that will guide our thoughts and our actions. Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in our Heavenly Father will influence all that we do. Amidst the confusion of our age, the conflicts of conscience, and the turmoil of daily living, an abiding faith becomes an anchor to our lives.”

President Thomas S. Monson, “Be an Example and a Light,” Ensign, Nov. 2015, 87.

LOVE YOU ALL SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
